Know When to Go
Like many Caribbean islands, St. Lucia’s high season runs from mid-December to mid-April, and the low season typically spans from mid-June to mid-November. While we’d love for you to join us any time of year, hotel rates may be significantly lower during low season.
Between May and June is when families can find the most idyllic temperatures, ranging from the 70s to high 80s. December and January are the coolest months, and June through August are the hottest.
Keep in mind: If you want to catch St. Lucia Jazz Festival in May or the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers, the world’s largest ocean-crossing race, in late November/early December, remember to plan early to join in on all the fun.
Have young ones in tow? Remember to pack fun activities and several snack options to keep the kids happy.
Plan Your Activities
While guests are more than welcome to rent a car to do solo sightseeing, our friendly front desk staff is more than happy to help coordinate a shuttle for your whole crew, as well as any excursions you may want to take during your trip.
When planning any day trip, note the island’s winding roads and make sure to organize each day’s activities within close distance to avoid too much time in the car.

Day Trip: Explore the Pitons
Visible for miles, The Pitons (meaning “peaks” in French) are comprised of the smaller Petit Piton and larger Gros Piton. These majestic natural wonders are actually volcanic plugs, and reach up to 771 and 743 meters tall, respectively. If you’re looking for a rigorous workout or simply stunning views (or both), we highly suggest exploring this exquisite Saint Lucian national landmark.
Take A Hike
A short car ride from Cap Maison south past Soufrière, the trail to the pitons is a scenic wonder not to be missed. The average hike time to the top of Gros Piton – a relatively strenuous jaunt – is about two hours, so make sure to stay hydrated, plan to go early when the temperature is cooler and give yourself plenty of time to enjoy the remarkable views from the top. Even if you only make it halfway up the peak, the sights are well worth the climb! The hike is guided by a local tour guide from The Soufrière Foundation who well-versed in the terrain, and we are more than happy to help you arrange your hike via our Online Concierge.

Honeymoon Hotel Review: Cap Maison – St. Lucia
This is an excerpt from a “You & Your Wedding” original article
ST LUCIA
The vibe: Opulent adventure
Best for: Stunning scenery. Budding photographers and Instagram enthusiasts will love the natural splendour of this volcanic Caribbean isle.
Imagine a place where you can find British home comforts like driving on the left and proper cups of tea, alongside all your favourite food and wine from a holiday in France with a Caribbean climate and straight-from-a-Bounty-advert-beaches. Amazingly such a place does exist and it’s called St Lucia, an island steeped in a history that brings three cultures together in heavenly style. As a Francophile Brit with a penchant for sunning myself against paradise backdrops, this beautiful teardrop-shaped island was everything I’d hoped it would be and more.
Before I set foot on St Lucia’s lush, green land, I’d heard many things – it’s well-known on the honeymoon circuit for its incredible volcanic scenery and laid-back luxe five-star hotels. It was news to me that the destination is a tale of two islands though. The north is lively with street parties and the buzzing capital, Castries, while the south is tranquil and dominated by awesome geographical sights. Even the beaches are different with deep golden shorelines framing the north and silvery white sands in the south. It only seemed right to discover both ends with a dual-stop stay, so after landing in the south we begin the white-knuckle ride journey by car through the awesome jungle scenery to the northernmost tip, Pointe du Cap. As we go our driver fills us in on all the exotic species hiding in the island’s lush centre, including the very rare St Lucian parrot.
Our destination is Cap Maison, a boutique hotel on the rugged cliffs overlooking Pigeon Island. The second we step out onto the sun-drenched drive surrounded by fragrant bougainvillea and the tinkling of water features, the staff greet us like old friends and I know I’m going to feel right at home here. The hotel feels like an exotic Mediterranean village with an inviting main house, complete with honesty bar and beautiful one-off pieces of furniture.
Every winding path we amble down reveals another surprise, from a two-tiered infinity pool with views that make you rub your eyes to a private path down to the beach, with its traditional beach-shack restaurant.
A Gardenview Room at Cap Maison starts from £275 per night on a B&B basis (two sharing), capmaison.com.
St. Lucia Family Travel: 3 Money-Saving Summer Tips
With April already underway, summer is around the corner. But is it too late to find great St. Lucia family travel deals? Not if you plan wisely!
Below we share a few of our top travel tips. Follow these steps and you’re likely to save money on your trip to our beautiful island and a perfect summer getaway for families.
Book your flight on the best day of the week. According to the travel data, some days are better than others for booking your flight. Airlines know that weekend days are preferable for most travellers’ work schedules to get maximum time off, and they charge accordingly. Book your travel on weekdays to get the best bang for your buck if possible. Also, remember that business travelers like to travel on Sundays to get where they need to be by Monday morning. It may be a money-saving option to consider a Saturday return trip. Essentially, midweek trips are the way for families looking to save. According to CheapAir:
“On average, our summer flight data indicates that flying on a Wednesday is $74 cheaper than flying on a Sunday. That may not seem significant until you start examining the typical family vacation. A family of four will save nearly $300 on average for their summer vacation flights just by traveling on a Tuesday or Wednesday. That’s the cost of a couple hotel rooms, or a fancy dinner for four! Seems to be a no-brainer when you can swing a midweek departure and return. The money you save might be the difference between taking a vacation this summer and thinking you can’t afford it!”
Consider a late summer getaway. If you have some flexibility in school and work schedules, late August and September can be a great time to book and save you hundreds on flights. And don’t forget to book within the optimal window. the site says:
“This year, we found the optimal time to buy an airline ticket was 47 days in advance, on average. However, the lowest summer airfares are usually found 100+ days in advance. “
What is the Mysterious “Green Flash” Seen On the Horizon at Cap Maison?
Pirates say seeing a bright green flash at sunset means a soul has escaped Davy Jones’ locker and returned back to this world from the dead. An old English proverb similar to the ‘red sky at night’ saying claims it brings good weather: “Glimpse you ere the green ray, Count the morrow a fine day.” Jimmy Buffett, known worldwide for his passion for the Caribbean lifestyle, even wrote a song about young love called “Green Flash at Sunset.”
Whether or not you believe any of the lore surrounding this curious phenomenon, a green flash is certainly something to behold. While it’s a little complicated to explain, can be caused by a variety of factors and is a somewhat rare occurence, we know of a few Cap Maison regulars who have witnessed one or two in their time here. Regardless of its scientific explanation, what most people usually see is a green spot above the upper rim of the Sun. It’s visible just before sunset and right after sunrise in certain conditions, and only lasts a couple of seconds at most.
The green flash is more likely to be seen in stable, clear air, and is often easier to catch at the end of the day rather than in the morning because getting the timing of the sunrise just right can be tricky. Lucky for guests of Cap Maison, which rests atop a cliff in northern Saint Lucia with panoramic views of the Caribbean Sea, a green flash is also easier to see above sea level and will be likely be in view longer than one would see at a lower elevation.
Where Can You Spot a Green Flash at Cap Maison?
While this stunning natural event is almost impossible to predict, we welcome you to join us nightly at The Cliff at Cap, our award-winning fine dining restaurant featuring delicious Creole cuisine with locally-sourced Saint Lucian ingredients. Allow Executive Chef Craig Jones to wow your palate as you enjoy an unforgettable sunset — whether you happen to catch an gorgeous green flash or not, this spot is one of the best on the island for sunset watching.
