3 Reasons Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Should Honeymoon in Saint Lucia

One of the biggest questions surrounding the May wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle is where the two soon-to-be-newlyweds will honeymoon. As the royal couple is known for their love of travel and experiencing different cultures, we in Saint Lucia think the island is an excellent choice for a romantic and culturally-immersive getaway.

Here’s three reasons why we think Saint Lucia should top their list.

Planning your own honeymoon and seeking the royal treatment at Cap Maison? Learn more about our Honeymoon Packages here.

Harry’s Recent Visit

On an official commonwealth visit in November 2016, Prince Harry toured our historic harbor capital of Castries, participated in an exhibition cricket match, learned about conservation projects on Pigeon Island and ended his tour by taking in a traditional Saint Lucian street festival in Soufriere.  His visit was an exciting time for the island, as he unveiled a dedication to The Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy Project, and official photos show he enjoyed himself while taking in the views and trying local cuisine.

Shall he return for a more relaxing escape, he and Meghan could enjoy a tropical hike or sunset cruise past the Pitons, or re-discover the spots he visited together. Options are endless, as there’s so much more to explore in Saint Lucia.

Luxury Accommodations

On the northern end of the island on a secluded cliffside, Cap Maison offers privacy and the ultimate in luxury for the well-traveled guest. The two could enjoy a week in the private grounds of Saman House, toasting to their nuptials with Cap Maison’s own cask aged rum or a selection 2,000 wines and spirits in our onsite wine cellar, and enjoying Creole-fusion cuisine from our award-winning Executive Chef Craig Jones.

Take a walk around the Saman House in our 360 virtual tour…

Celebrity Friendly

Not only has “The Bachelor” chosen Cap Maison for filming during two seasons, it’s also a popular spot for both UK and US celebs alike, including Vanessa Williams and Anna Friel. The allure of a secluded beach and intimate accommodations makes our slice of paradise in Saint Lucia an attractive honeymoon and vacation choice for those looking to escape the spotlight.

SOLEIL – the Saint Lucia Summer Festival, a series of six festivals taking place from May through October, has just been announced and promises to bring extraordinary live music acts, artists and more.

The Summer Festival series will kick off May 12-14, 2017, with Saint Lucia Jazz, a celebration of Caribbean and international jazz music. Confirmed headliners also include Rupert Lay, steel pannist Victor Provost and Malavoi, hailing from Martinique.

“With the new season of festivals, Saint Lucia aims to increase tourism arrivals while also creating opportunities for local artists and businesses that will enhance the visibility of the island as a vibrant and diverse cultural destination,” explains Minister for Tourism Dominic Fedee. “We look forward to not only celebrating Saint Lucian traditions, but also serving up a summer of fun and entertainment to visitors and locals alike.”

The Saint Lucia Summer Festival will also feature:

  • Roots & Soul (June 16-18): Dedicated to new trends in reggae, conscious hip-hop, Afropunk and R&B, this festival will also mark the launch of Saint Lucia Carnival.
  • Saint Lucia Carnival (mid-June through mid-July): A variety of musical competitions lead up to the Parade of the Bands on July 17 and 18.  Throughout, Lucian Carnival gives revelers the opportunity to fête throughout the island in true Caribbean fashion.

Inspired by Chefs Nina Compton and Doran Payne, the event will feature culinary demonstrations, rum and wine tastings, dining events and experiences, and musical performances.
  • Country & Blues Festival (September 15-17): The festival will reflect the diversity and modernity of the genres of music that act as powerful storytellers of the past and draw strong parallels to Saint Lucian folk traditions.
  • Arts & Heritage Festival (October): Building on Jounen Kwéyòl, this month-long festival will celebrate Saint Lucia’s cultural, ethnic and artistic heritage with a variety of performances, seminars, lectures, culinary experiences, street parties and art exhibitions.

Below, we highlight the exciting activities we at Cap Maison can coordinate for you to make your vacation as outstanding as His Royal Highness’ St. Lucian  adventures.

A guest favorite activity is tagging along with our own Chef Craig on Saturdays to visit Castries Market to shop for fresh meats and produce for the Naked Fisherman and Cliff at Cap Restaurants. It’s also a great place to purchase locally-made souvenirs for friends and family.

Catch a Cricket Match

Harry headed to the pitch to watch a match between two teams competing on behalf of His Royal Highness and the Prime Minister at Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, where the St. Lucia Zouks play. Take in the island’s favorite sport by purchasing tickets to the next match.

Pigeon Island

During a visit to Pigeon Island, the prince planted a Calabash tree, the national tree of St. Lucia, and unveiled a dedication plaque to honor Castries Water Works Reserve and surrounding rainforest as St Lucia’s contribution to The Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy.

The Saint Lucia National Trust boasts Pigeon Island as one of the most important St. Lucian landmarks. The 44-acre reserve features:

  • Ruins of military buildings used during the battles between the French and the British for the island of Saint Lucia.
  • An Interpretation Centre describing the rich history of the island.
  • Two beautiful beaches.
  • A restaurant featuring local cuisine.
  • A pub and restaurant with a historical theme.
  • A lookout point at the top of the Fort which gives a panoramic view of the Northwest coastline.

Whether you hike the mountain or are more interested of an offshore tour via Cap Maison I, we are more than happy to coordinate your trip to this natural and historic Saint Lucian gem.

See a Street Festival

Situated between the Pitons, the prince took in a street festival in the town of Soufriere, enjoying traditional food and drink from local vendors as well as live local music.

No matter the day of the week or time of year, a variety St. Lucian communities are always buzzing with live jazz music and dancing. Check in with us at Concierge and we’ll guide you to the closest celebration for you to take in some local flavor.

Chef Craig Guests at the Guernsey Food Fair

Chef Craig Jones of the acclaimed Cap Maison boutique resort in St Lucia makes his first visit to Guernsey for a gala dinner at the OGH. Partnering with Channel Island Chef of the Year, Simon Mckenzie, the menu features a taste of the Caribbean including Poached Lobster ravioli with Pink Grapefruit, Lemon Grass & Ginger Veloute, and Iced Coconut Parfait, Spiced Doughnut, Pineapple & Pistachio.

IMG_9862When Executive Chef Craig Jones opened The Cliff at Cap, the white tablecloth restaurant at Cap Maison, on St Lucia in October, 2008, he brought a lifetime of experience in some of the best kitchens in the world. His French West Indian inspired menu is offered in The Cliff at Cap’s dramatic setting, a bluff overlooking the crashing Caribbean Sea, with unobstructed views towards Martinique to the north and Pigeon Island to the West. Cap Maison and Chef Jones have been hailed by The New York Times and The Cliff at Cap is considered one of the most highly sought after tables on the island. But along with his rigorous training at Michelin-starred kitchens in Europe, the Welsh-born Chef Jones also brought a locavore’s passion to St Lucia, well before local sourcing became a fashionable buzz word.

“I like working with small island farmers and the local fishermen, because obviously, that’s where it starts,” he says. “I love to take guests to vg_food_festival_logo_new_datesthe roadside markets and the Saturday market in Castries. The variety always surprises them, even the most sophisticated travellers who have grown accustomed to seeing exotic products in their upscale city markets. I can’t wait to sample Guernsey’s famous produce in September

The second Guernsey International Food Festival returns to the island featuring Guernsey Cocktail Week from 16-24 September and the main festival from 23 September – 2 October. Packed with events showcasing the best of Guernsey food alongside guest chefs and produce from across the globe, we take a look at some of the highlights.
