The Oliver Gobat Sports Fund
Many previous guests of Cap Maison will doubtless know of the tragic loss of Ollie Gobat in 2014. Since then, Ollie’s family, Helen, Theo, Rufus and Adam, have created a fitting legacy for Ollie by founding the Oliver Gobat Sports Foundation – TOGS for short!
The aim of TOGS is to provide opportunities for young Saint Lucian boys and girls, to follow their dreams in their chosen sport. Over the past 6-7 years, thousands of dollars raised by holding special events, together with the generosity of many kind individuals, has made many dreams come true.
One such event, devised by Ollies friends is an annual golf event held at Worplesdon
The 6th annual Ollie Gobat Golf Day took place at Worplesdon on the 18th of September 2021. It was a beautiful sunny day to remember Ollie at a magnificent course, with a full turn out of 45 players. As well as a great number of Ollie’s friends, Ryder Cup golfer Andy Sullivan took part in supporting the day, along with Ollie’s close friend and Radio 2 DJ Trevor Nelson. The legendary Chelsea goalkeeper Eddie Niedzwiecki was also a welcome participant, along with former Welsh international footballer Mark Bowen. Paul Moran and his team were the worthy winners on the day with some super golf, and the Charity day raised over £13,000 towards the Ollie Gobat Sports Foundation. These funds will be used to assist worthy young St Lucians to achieve their sporting dreams.
Special thanks as ever go to Ollie’s great friends and organisers of the event, Stuart Purling, Brendan Taylor, and to Helen Gobat for doing such as wonderful job spearheading the Ollie Gobat Sports Foundation.
